Israel's ban on Arab delegation's visit was a clear humiliation for compromisers - Arab analyst

Abdul Bari Atwan criticized Arab leaders for their compromising stance after Israel blocked an Arab delegation from entering Ramallah. The delegation canceled its planned visit, condemning Israel’s violation of international law

AhlulBayt News Agency: Abdul Bari Atwan, an Arab world analyst, has strongly criticized Arab leaders for their compromising stance following Israel’s decision to block an Arab delegation from entering Ramallah.

Atwan wrote on Monday that Israel’s refusal to allow four Arab foreign ministers into Ramallah was unsurprising, but what was shocking was the submissive reaction of these ministers and their governments.

He argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought to humiliate Arab leaders, demonstrating that normalization efforts were meaningless to him and that Israel alone dictates the region’s future.

Atwan stated that the delegation’s visit to Ramallah, amid intensifying genocide, killings, and starvation in Gaza, was akin to surrendering to Israel and seeking its approval.

He noted that Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, cannot leave his office without Israeli permission, citing Israel’s prevention of his trip to Amman as proof.

Atwan criticized Egypt, Bahrain, and Jordan, stating that they did not even withdraw their embassy guards from Tel Aviv, instead opting to complain to Trump and hold a meeting in Amman.

He accused Trump of disrespecting Arab leaders, boasting about taking $5 trillion from them in two hours, and viewing this as payment for ensuring their continued rule.

Atwan remarked that Arab leaders once negotiated with Israel cautiously, but now they rush toward normalization, only to be humiliated—with Yemen and its people being the sole exception.

Following Israel’s refusal to allow the Arab delegation into Ramallah, the delegation canceled its planned visit.

The delegation, consisting of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s actions.

They asserted that Israel’s decision violated its obligations as an occupier, reflecting its arrogance, disregard for international law, and ongoing illegitimate policies.

Israel had informed Hussein Al-Sheikh, deputy and successor to Mahmoud Abbas, that the Arab delegation would not be allowed to enter Ramallah.
